Mythology ...

"Without the power of the gods we would not be here today. Trees would not grow, the sun would not shine, and there would be no love or hope. There would be only darkness. Without us, however, they would not be gods, merely powerful beings without purpose. Our faith powers them, and in turn, they guide, protect, and bless us all. Without one, there cannot be the other. Each life, and death, upon this earth empowers them, and therefore blesses all. Never forget that, for faith is our true salvation."
- Khiev Treilbourne
Priest of Elijah

Arthur
King of the Gods

“It is said that Arthur came from a far away, mythical land. He was once a great king of men and came here upon his death. He brought with him the ideals of Camelot and immediately started to rebuild his kingdom. When he arrived, the lands were covered in darkness. Men were scattered tribes of barbarians fighting for their very survival. The world was savage, dark, and unrelenting. Through many adventures and battles, Arthur populated his kingdom with gods and they set Camelot into the heavens. The gods then divided the earth, each claiming sovereignty over what they loved the most. Arthur ruled over all justly and fairly.

Soon after all was decided among the gods, Arthur had built for him a perfectly round table. He called to him knights he once knew, and other noble souls to join his court as his Archangels. These beings were powerful and good and righteous. They became Arthur’s messengers, knights, and emissaries. It was then that he turned his attention to man.”

- Michael of Arthur, High Priest of the Arthurian Church in Avalon.

Once Arthur turned his gaze upon man, he saw that they were strong and intelligent, but had a great capacity for good or evil. He knew they would need leadership, for without it, chaos would reign. And so his archangels were sent to see to the formation of kingdoms and governments to organize mankind.

Things went well, but still were not to Arthur’s liking, so he found a noble young warrior from a barbarian clan and chose him as the “True King”. His name was Darius. As he grew up and traveled, he met many friends, orchestrated by the wizard Ceptor. Eventually, Darius caught word of a dragon lairing far to the north, laying waste to the villages of the people there. He and his allies set forth and killed the dragon, staking a claim for a kingdom and calling it Avalon. Though he was not the first follower of Arthur, King Darius was certainly the most influential of his time.

Arthur is worshipped by all in Avalon, especially the rulers, nobles, and knights. The common folk have more in common with the teachings of Elijah, but still hold Arthur as the head of the pantheon. Those in the higher classes, however, strive to get into Camelot and enjoy eternal ruler ship beneath Arthur himself or possibly sit at the Round Table. This is the promise to those who rule justly, act with honor, and prove worthy. These beliefs are the very foundation on which the kingdom of Avalon was built, and have kept it strong for 812 years.

Though Arthur rules over all of Camelot, he does have a very specific portfolio, just as all the gods do. He is considered to be the god of kings, knights, honor, and war. His less martial areas of influence include ruler ship, law, and prosperity. His symbol is that of his sword, Excalibur, pointing down, looking much like a cross. It is the most sacred symbol in the land.
