Mythology ...

"Without the power of the gods we would not be here today. Trees would not grow, the sun would not shine, and there would be no love or hope. There would be only darkness. Without us, however, they would not be gods, merely powerful beings without purpose. Our faith powers them, and in turn, they guide, protect, and bless us all. Without one, there cannot be the other. Each life, and death, upon this earth empowers them, and therefore blesses all. Never forget that, for faith is our true salvation."
- Khiev Treilbourne
Priest of Elijah

Kaleus
The Wicked, Devil's Son, Lord of the Undead

"She knew she had consorted with the Devil. She would bear Lucifer’s child and unleash Him upon the Earth. She was afraid and told no one, hiding it even from the gods. She feared the day it would be born; a demon of vile ugliness and wicked power.

But when it was born, she found not a monstrous demon, but a son, beautiful and innocent. She named him Kaleus, raising him with love and care, forgetting the torment of the memory of the night she lay with The Devil.

Alas, that was The Devil’s plan. He is a liar and a seducer. Kaleus grew, as a human, into a great warrior of his barbarian tribe. Over time, his legend grew and he collected all of the tribes beneath him. He ruled the entire barbarian lands. He seduced them with his power and violence. And as they joined him, he grew more powerful and more violent. He realized what he was. A demon! And he smiled.

The Devil invited Kaleus back to Hell, to rule with Him. Power and lust made Kaleus refuse and remain on Earth. He mastered the power of commanding the dead, forcing them to do his bidding. He found followers to spread his word. Soon, he would rule his own Hell. He would conquer the human kingdoms, beginning with Avalon…”

- From “The History of Evil” an essay by Alianna of St. Arlon.

Kaleus is the single most powerful being on the mortal world. He can be a great seducer, working secretly and quietly manipulating things to his liking, much like his rumored father. He can also be overbearing and blunt (as in his most recent war with the League), a very human trait. His every thought is bent on the destruction of all that is good in the world. He wants only to conquer, destroy, and enslave all he sees. Servitude to him extends beyond the grave, as he has power over the living dead. Therefore, the more he kills and destroys, the more powerful he becomes. His connection to Lucifer is unproven, but generally believed to be true, as it would explain his varied temperament and his power.

Followers of Kaleus are the worst of the worst. They are evil, uncaring, and violent. Many of them join his cause because of the power and wealth it promises. Others are slowly corrupted and seduced by his power. Because he exists on the mortal world, his followers also tend to be zealots, with absolute belief in him. He gains some followers simply because they have given up on “intangible” gods. His priests are arrogant, powerful, and thoroughly evil. They wield huge, two handed axes in combat with surprising skill and efficiency. Most of them desire to become a powerful demon in Kaleus’ “new” Hell, and so will do anything he requests.

Though he is native to the mortal world, Kaleus has managed to gain enough power and worshippers to attain a deity-like status. His influences include evil, war, the undead, and conquest. His symbol is a great axe, facing downward, driving a huge spike through a human skull. Skeletal hands often grasp the haft of the axe, holding it securely, when worn as a necklace. Kaleus’ colors are red, black, gold, and bronze.
